CSD-Central Supply Database

Are you a supplier or service provider who wants to do business with the South African government? Registering on the Central Supplier Database (CSD) is your first and most important step.

The CSD is a platform managed by the National Treasury of South Africa, designed to streamline and centralize the process of supplier registration and verification for all government procurement activities. Once registered and verified, your business will become visible to all spheres of government, including national, provincial, and local departments, state-owned enterprises, and municipalities.

What is the Central Supplier Database (CSD)?

The Central Supplier Database (CSD) is a mandatory supplier registration system that allows businesses and individuals to register as potential suppliers to the South African government. It eliminates the need to submit the same company documents to multiple departments, as it creates a single, standardized, and verified supplier profile accessible to all government buyers.

Why is CSD Registration Important?

  1. Mandatory for Government Tenders
  2. Nationwide Visibility
  3. Faster Procurement
  4. Reduces Paperwork
  5. Continuous Compliance
  1. Mandatory for Government Tenders – You cannot do business with the government without being registered on the CSD.

  2. Nationwide Visibility – Once registered, your profile becomes visible to all government departments looking for suppliers.

  3. Faster Procurement – Your details are pre-verified and accessible, making it easier for departments to contract with you.

  4. Reduces Paperwork – You submit your documents once, and they’re shared across departments digitally.

  5. Continuous Compliance – Your profile can be updated anytime, ensuring your information stays current and compliant.

What Information is Captured on the CSD?

When you register, you will need to provide the following:

  • Company Registration Number (CK or Pty Ltd)
  • Tax Compliance Status (via SARS PIN)
  • Bank Account Confirmation Letter
  • BBBEE Certificate (if applicable)
  • CIDB Registration (if applicable)
  • Directors’ Information
  • Physical and Postal Address
  • Contact Details (phone and email)
  • Industry Category/Type of Services or Goods Provided
  • Municipal Accounts (for address verification)

How the CSD Process Works:

1. Registration

You register your business on the CSD website using your ID number and company details.

2. Verification

The system connects automatically with key institutions like:

  • CIPC to confirm business registration.

  • SARS for tax compliance.

  • Banks to verify banking details.

  • BBBEE Agencies for certification confirmation.

This ensures that your information is accurate, up to date, and compliant with procurement laws.

3. Activation

Once verified, your supplier profile becomes active and searchable on the CSD platform by all government entities.

4. Procurement Opportunities

You are now eligible to be considered automatically for procurement opportunities (RFQs, tenders, quotations) issued by:

  • National and Provincial Departments

  • Municipalities

  • Public Entities and SOEs (State-Owned Enterprises)

You don’t apply through CSD – instead, government buyers use the database to identify you based on your registered services or products.

5. Contracting and Engagement

When selected, you will deal directly with the department issuing the tender or contract. The terms, pricing, and deliverables are handled directly between you and them.

6. Compliance and Monitoring

You must:

  • Keep your information updated (e.g., banking, tax, contact details).

  • Remain compliant (e.g., maintain valid tax clearance and business registration).

  • Log in regularly to make updates or renew documents when needed.

Failure to update your profile may lead to temporary deactivation or missed opportunities.
